UND’s Center for Innovation and St. John’s Capital
Group Awards Entrepreneur Finance Scholarship
Annual St. John's Capital Group Entrepreneur Finance
Scholarship Awarded
San Jose, CA. February 27, 2006 — St. John’s Capital
Group, (www.stjohncapital.com), the premier financier
for companies purchasing undervalued assets,
announced today that its annual St. John's Capital
Group Entrepreneur Finance Scholarship was awarded
to Mr. Lee Groeschl. Lee is an MBA student with an
emphasis on Entrepreneur Finance at UND (University
of North Dakota). The annual scholarship was awarded
by UND’s Center for Innovation.
The St. John’s Capital Entrepreneur Finance
Scholarship is provided by a non-profit endowment
fund (http://www.stjohncapital.com/non-profit) created
by St. John’s Capital Group to support multiple annual
scholarships, charitable activities, and missions. The
scholarship is to encourage and spread our passion in
entrepreneur financing. Other scholarships include
supporting social entrepreneur and promoting mutual
understanding across cultures through international
cooperation.
Mr. Bruce Gjovig, the CEO for UND’s Center for
Innovation who awarded this scholarship, said, “Mr.
Lee Groeshl met St. John’s Capital Finance
Scholarship criteria very well. He started a company
while in college to learn ‘the venture creation process’
and has been active in angel and seed capital activities
as a student. Last fall, he organized and serves as
President of the Dakota Venture Group, a student-
managed venture fund, which allows UND students to
learn the basics of angel and equity investing through
its practice and application.”
“The Dakota Venture Group just made its first
investment in a student e-commerce venture, and is
conducting due diligence on two other ventures. Lee is
also an entrepreneur finance intern at the Center for
Innovation and helped me organize two angel funds in
Grand Forks and Fargo last summer and fall. He has
actively participated in these angel fund meetings,
offering support and assistance in the process. He has
also met with several entrepreneurs getting them ready
to make their pitch before the angel funds.”
With the leadership from Bruce Gjovig and the support
from individuals and foundations, the Center and Mr.
Gjovig have received six (6) national awards for
excellence in entrepreneurship and innovation. In
2006, UND was named the 8th best school for
entrepreneurs out of 700 nationwide by Princeton
Review and Entrepreneur magazine. In 2004, UND
was ranked #14 of America's Most Entrepreneurial
Colleges.
“St. John’s Capital Group is honored to support and
contribute to the entrepreneurship initiatives with the
Center for Innovation through its Annual Entrepreneur
Finance Scholarship,” said Edwin Yeh, CEO of St. John’
s Capital Group. “We seek to continue to expand our
non-profit fund management in the future so we can
provide resources and support to deserving
entrepreneurs such as Lee and worthy causes such as
the Center for Innovation." ###
